We are delighted to present the first solo exhibition, LARSEN, by Christophe Lezaire (b. 1963 , Belgium) at our gallery.
What if the world of objects was divided into transmitters and receivers? What if bringing transmitters and receivers into proximity could create a loop, in turn creating a signal that, gradually increasing in intensity, would reach the limits of the material used. LARSEN.
Lezaire forages then disrupts the everyday in search of this signal. Like a tightrope walker on the thread of days where his luck must be constantly challenged, it is during slow and long wanderings, punctuated by numerous back-and-forths, that Lezaire collects and accumulates the materials, the ingredients that underpin his language.
Like a discovering child, he brings a fresh gaze to everything that falls into his hands, then integrates it luminously into his own colorful and playful world, but never forgetting to resonate with the other world, the world, towards which he will breathe a vision sometimes naively joyful, sometimes ruthlessly cynical, but always pertinent. Because deeply rooted in his time while refusing the ambient uniformization, Lezaire offers clear work, accessible at first glance.
LARSEN is also like a playground with varied attractions. While these pieces manage to dialogue with each other, none is a repetition of another. Such is the artist's commitment: with each gesture, its discovery, its invention.

Et si le monde des objets était divisé en émetteurs-récepteurs ? Et si la mise en proximité d’émetteur, de récepteur, pouvait créer une boucle, créant à son tour un signal qui, augmentant progressivement en intensité, atteindraient les limites du matériel utilisé. LARSEN.
Lezaire butine puis bouleverse le quotidien à la recherche de ce signal. En équilibriste sur le fil des jours où sa chance est en permanence à provoquer, c’est lors de lentes et longues déambulations, rythmées par de nombreux allers-retours, que Lezaire récolte et accumule les matériaux, les ingrédients qui sous-tendent son langage. Tel le gosse qui découvre, il porte le regard neuf sur tout ce qui lui tombe entre les mains pour ensuite l’intégrer avec luminance dans ce monde coloré et ludique qui lui est propre mais n’oubliant jamais d’entrer en résonance avec l’autre monde, le monde, celui envers lequel il nous sera insuffler une vision tantôt naïvement joyeuse, tantôt impitoyablement cynique, mais toujours pertinente. Parce que profondément ancré dans son époque tout en se refusant à l’uniformisation ambiante, Lezaire propose un travail limpide, accessible au premier coup d'œil.
LARSEN, c’est aussi comme un terrain de jeux aux attractions variées. Alors que ces pièces parviennent à dialoguer entre elles, aucune n’est la redite d’une autre. Tel est l'engagement de l’artiste, à chaque geste sa découverte, son invention.

Wat als de wereld van objecten verdeeld zou zijn in zenders en ontvangers? En er een lus zou ontstaan door zender en ontvanger in elkaars nabijheid te brengen, waardoor er een signaal gecreëerd wordt, dat geleidelijk in intensiteit toeneemt, en zo de grenzen van het gebruikte materiaal bereikt? LARSEN.
Lezaire doorkruist en ontwricht het alledaagse leven op zoek naar dit signaal. Het is een eindeloos koorddansen, telkens opnieuw moet hij zijn geluk op de proef stellen. Tijdens trage en lange wandelingen, op het ritme van tallozee heen-en-weer bewegingen, haalt Lezaire zijn oogst aan materialen binnen, de elementen die zijn taal vorm geven.
Als een kind dat nieuwe dingen ontdekt, kijkt hij met frisse blik naar alles wat hij tegenkomt, om het daarna te integreren in de gekleurde, speelse wereld die hem eigen is. Maar steeds resoneert hij ook met die andere wereld, waar hij soms naïef vrolijk, soms genadeloos cynisch, maar steeds pertinent naar kijkt. Diep geworteld in zijn tijd, maar weigerend om de heersende uniformiteit te accepteren, is het werk van Lezaire in één oogopslag helder en toegankelijk.
LARSEN is ook als een speeltuin met diverse attracties. Hoewel deze werken erin slagen een dialoog met elkaar aan te gaan, is geen enkel werk een herhaling van een ander. Dit is het engagement van de kunstenaar: elk gebaar is zijn eigen ontdekking, zijn eigen uitvinding.
