Thomas Müller won the Kubus. Sparda Art Prize 2024

Thomas Müller (b. 1959, Frankfurt, Germany) has been awarded the prestigious Kubus. Sparda Art Prize 2024! Congratulations to Thomas on this remarkable achievement!

The Kubus prize, now awarded for the sixth time, is established by Sparda-Bank Baden-Württemberg in collaboration with Kunstmuseum Stuttgart. The prize, endowed with 20,000 euros, honours extraordinary artistic achievements by artists with a connection to the State of Baden-Württemberg.

The jury explained its decision:

With each of his sheets, Thomas Müller releases the potential of non-representational abstraction in the medium of drawing. His drawing forms, structures and techniques, developed and tested over three decades, mark a turn towards the processual. Each work is a response and variation, at the same time an echo and continuation of a previous, already existing work. In his continuous preoccupation with the line and the exploration of its behavior on the surface, the artist opens up spaces that offer a moment of concentration and deceleration. This feeling for spatial situations is also evident in the convincing presentation of his works in the exhibition, which is characterized by a meditative, rhythmic dramaturgy."

An exhibition showcasing Müller’s work, along with other finalists, is on view at Kunstmuseum Stuttgart from May 9 to August 25, 2024.
