Léonard Pongo | Frontier Garamba: The Struggle for Nature at the Edge of the State

Book release

Featuring photographs by Léonard Pongo, Frontier: Garamba National Park explores the complex ways in which nature is controlled, protected and exploited. Set in the far northeast of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Garamba is an archetypal frontier where conservation, violence and competing claims to power intersect.

Combining Pongo’s photographs with essays and archival research by Kristof Titeca and Patrick Edmond, the book brings together contemporary images and historical material to examine the contested relationship between people, wildlife and power in one of Africa’s most complex protected landscapes.

The book will be presented during Paris Photo and Polycopies, 12-15 November 2026. Pre-orders are now available.
