Kristof De Clercq Gallery is proud to share that Johan Grimonprez has been named Guest of Honor at the 2025 edition of the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA), one of the world’s leading festivals for documentary film.
From 13 to 24 November 2025, IDFA presents a comprehensive retrospective of Grimonprez’s work, including landmark films such as dial H-I-S-T-O-R-Y (1997), Shadow World (2016), and Soundtrack to a Coup d’État (2024).
As Guest of Honor, Grimonprez also curates a Top 10 program, selecting films that have shaped his artistic practice and thinking. In addition, IDFA showcases a special presentation of archival materials that illuminate recurring themes across his oeuvre: the shifting boundaries between fact and fiction, media and power, self and other.
This recognition underlines Grimonprez’s influential position at the intersection of art and cinema, and highlights his ongoing commitment to exploring the role of media in shaping our collective imagination.
