We are pleased to share that Belgian artist Stijn Ank (b. 1977, Belgium) has unveiled a striking new sculpture at Gellertplatz in Hainichen as part of the Purple Path in Chemnitz (Germany) – a growing art axis connecting key locations across the region in anticipation of Chemnitz European Capital of Culture 2025.
Ank’s work, known for its fusion of material and immaterial, invites reflection on space, presence, and transformation. His contribution, titled Endless Column, is a slender, three-meter-high sculpture in white-patinated bronze, evoking a poetic stack of paper. Installed at Gellertplatz in Hainichen, the piece alludes to nearby historical figures: Enlightenment writer Christian Fürchtegott Gellert and paper innovator Friedrich Gottlob Keller. With its delicate tension between weight and lightness, memory, and the flow of ideas, Ank’s sculpture creates a quiet, contemplative moment along the path.
The Purple Path is more than a sculpture trail – it is a curatorial gesture across landscapes and communities. Ank’s work joins a growing series of site-specific installations by international and regional artists, each contributing to a dialogue about memory, transformation, and artistic presence in public space.
If you’re considering your summer plans and have a deep appreciation for thoughtful contemporary art in meaningful settings – the Purple Path is waiting for you!
