Joris Ghekiere | Dancing with Nietzsche
View works

Kristof De Clercq is honoured to present the gallery’s second solo exhibition of works by Joris Ghekiere (Belgium, 1955-2016).

Joris Ghekiere’s work is notoriously difficult to navigate. He painted in multiple styles and explored different techniques. He was fascinated by uncomplicated beauty, but challenges our conceptions of beauty by means of an unusual range of colours and distorted compositions.

Ghekiere was a great admirer of Nietzsche, and was fascinated by the fact that Nietzsche loved to dance. Actually, dance plays a role throughout Nietzsche’s writing as a litmus test for any value, idea, practice or person. Does it dance? Does it catalyse a joyful affirmation of life? These also seem like interesting questions to approach the impalpable work of Joris Ghekiere.
